About Representative Bobby Moak
A sixth generation Mississippian, Bobby Moak grew up in the Moaks' Creek Community of Lincoln County. He graduated from Bogue Chitto School, Southwest Mississippi Junior College (AA'78), The University of Mississippi (BPA'80) and Mississippi College School of Law (JD'91). He completed course work at Mississippi State and was Mississippi's first Toll Fellow at the University of Kentucky through the Council of State Governments Leadership Program.
Elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in his first run for political office in 1983, Bobby serves as that chambers first Chairman of the Gaming Committee while holding membership on the Banking, Judiciary A, Judiciary En Banc, Insurance, Tourism, Public Health & Human Services, and Ways & Means Committees and Select Committees for Poverty and Philanthropic Development.
As Chair of the House Gaming Committee, Moak is credited with shepherding into law what is known as the "800-foot Rule". This 'Rule' allowed casinos to move 800 feet on shore and helped to revitalize the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.
Moak is a member of the Lincoln County, Southwest, Fifth Circuit, Mississippi and American Bar Associations. He holds membership in the American and Mississippi Trial Lawyers Associations, International Association of Gaming Lawyers, The Council of State Governments, Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and is an honorary Phi Theta Kappa. Moak is also a Uniform Law Commissioner and advisor to North Pike High School.
Moak is a frequent group/association speaker on issues related to the legislative process, gaming, and judicial issues. Moak has provided commentary on Mississippi's rebuilding efforts post Hurricane Katrina and the gaming industry for print, television and radio in America and Europe.
